Former Iowa Coach Todd Lickliter Hired As Assistant At Miami (Ohio)

Former Butler and Iowa coach Todd Lickliter has been hired as an assistant coach at Miami (Ohio) University, the school announced Tuesday.

Lickliter joins head coach Charlie Coles with the RedHawks, who have made just two NCAA tournament appearances since 1999.

Lickliter last served as head coach at Iowa from 2007-2010, where he went 38-57 in three seasons with the Hawkeyes. Before that, he was the head coach at Butler, going 131-61 in six seasons that included two trips to the NCAA tournament’s Sweet 16.

“Todd is a long-time colleague in the profession and friend whose coaching skills and ability to teach the game I’ve valued and respected for many years, Coles said in a statement. When the position opened up, I called Todd not sure what his interest would be, and he said he was interested in joining our staff. I believe this is a great addition to the nucleus of coaches we have and only enhances the existing strength of our staff.”

Meanwhile, Lickliter, who was named the 2007 coach of the year by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, is just happy to be back on the sidelines.

“I’m thrilled to be joining the Miami University staff and to work with Charlie Coles. I’ve always had tremendous respect for Miami University and its rich tradition, said Lickliter. In addition to being a long-time friend, I think Charlie Coles’ reputation, his abilities and his character are of the highest magnitude. There is not another coach for whom I’d rather work.”
