Basketball Play of the Week
Under-The-Basket 1-4 Low Play Vs. Man
This play is run from a 1-4 low set with 3 taking the ball out under the basket. On the slap of the ball, 5 sets a block-to-block screen for 2. 3 looks to 2 as the first option and then looks for 5 opening up to the ball after setting the screen. 1 fades to teh top of the strong side as 2 comes off the screen.
2 does not stop at the block. Instead, if 2 doesn't get the ball, he or she continues to the corner and sets a backscreen for 4 (this leaves 5 temporarily isolated in the post). 4 rolls around 2's backscreen and cuts to the basket looking for the inbound pass.
If 4 doesn't receive the ball on the flash to the basket, he or she breaks to the top and sets a screen for 1, who breaks to the ball. 3 passes to 2 in the corner and 2 looks to hit 1 on the break to the basket (this is usually one of the best options on this play) or shoots the 3-point shot.
If 1 can't receive the pass from 2, or if 3 can't inbound the ball to 2 in the corner, then 4 becomes the safety outlet at the top.
