Indiana Tech Names Women’s Coach

Indiana Tech has hired Jessie Biggs as its new women’s basketball coach.

Biggs spent the past two seasons as a graduate assistant at Western Illinois University.

“We are happy to have Jessie as our new head coach, athletics director Martin Neuhoff said in a statement Monday.

She is going to be a very solid addition to our current coaching staff and we are excited to have her join the Indiana Tech family. Her experience and knowledge will direct the program in the right direction and take it to the next level.”

She replaces Rodney Hamilton, who coached the Warriors for three years before taking an assistant-coaching job with the Tennessee State’s men’s team.

The Warriors were 14-17 last season.

A native of Ottumwa, Iowa, Biggs was a four-year player at Northern Iowa. A guard, she made the Missouri Valley Conference’s all-freshman team, was a second-team all-MVC selection in 2006-07 and was the Northern Iowa Female Athlete of the Year, having captained the team.

She scored more than 1, 000 points at Northern Iowa.

She spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Coe College, where she created workout programs, practice plans and scouting reports, recruited players and monitored athletes’ academics.

She also coached the junior varsity team at Coe and was the director of intramural sports, before going to Western Illinois.

She has a bachelor’s degree in criminology and a minor in athletic coaching from Northern Iowa, plus a master’s degree in recreation, parks, and tourism administration from Western Illinois.
