Knoxville To Honor Summitt With Riverwalk Star

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Lady Vols head basketball coach Pat Summitt will get a first-of-its-kind honor next Wednesday from the City of Knoxville.

The city will unveil on January 5 a star honoring coach Summitt on the new Riverwalk of Fame along the Tennessee River.

The star will be located near the base of the planned pedestrian bridge connecting downtown with Volunteer Landing.

The Riverwalk of Fame will honor people from Knoxville and the surrounding area who have made a mark nationally or internationally.

The city expects to honor about one person per year.

Susan Richardson Williams suggested the Riverwalk of Fame to city officials early last year. She also suggested Summitt to be the first honoree.

A committee has been formed to create the criteria and process for selecting future honorees.
