Northwestern Extends Carmody

Northwestern basketball coach Bill Carmody, who has held the post for 11 years, has signed a contract extension with the Wildcats.

Although neither Northwestern Athletic Director Jim Phillips nor Carmody would give details of the extension Monday, the Chicago Tribune — citing a source — reported it was for two years.

In announcing the agreement, Phillips praised Carmody for back-to-back seasons reaching the postseason. The Wildcats’ two straight NIT appearances were a first for the program. At the same time, though, Carmody has never succeeded in leading the Wildcats into the NCAA.

Carmody has been especially successful at home in recent years, with his teams compiling a 35-9 record in Evanston since the 200809 season. But the Wildcats’ road record in those same years has been a dismal 8-21.
