Waves of Top Inner City Conference Players Leaving Milwaukee For Out-of-State Prep Schools

Story By Mark Miller, WisSports.net Editor

Six of the 10 players selected for the Milwaukee City Conference all-league team a year ago were underclassmen.

Deonte Burton, a bruising 6-foot-5 class of 2013 forward from Milwaukee Vincent who is ranked No. 1 in his class by WisSports.net, is now attending Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire.

Darnell Harris, a skilled 6-8 class of 2011 forward from Milwaukee Hamilton who is ranked No. 4 in his class by WisSports.net, is now attending Christian Life School in Humble, Texas.

Charles Lee, a poised 5-10 class of 2011 floor general from Milwaukee Hamilton who recently gave a verbal commitment to play at Cleveland State, is now attending Huntington Prep in Huntington, West Virginia.

And Quevyn Winters, a versatile 6-5 class of 2011 wing forward from Milwaukee Washington who gave a verbal commitment to play at Baylor, is now attending Oldsmar Christian School near Tampa, Florida.

The other returning first-team performers — Iowa State recruit Elgin Cook of Milwaukee Hamilton and Trinson White of Milwaukee Riverside — have, at least for the moment, elected to complete their high school careers in the city.

Four additional players, promising 6-10 junior Phil Nolan of Milwaukee Vincent, ever-improving 6-7 junior Jameel McKay of Milwaukee Pulaski, 6-1 class of 2010 graduate Derrick Cook of Milwaukee South Division and 6-3 class of 2010 graduate Troy Spears of Milwaukee South Division, also plan to spend the 2010-11 school year at prep schools.

Nolan will join Lee at Huntington Prep while both McKay and Spears will compete for Southern Carolina Prep School, and Cook is at Genesis One Prep in Mississippi.
