Will Pitino Coach Puerto Rico National Team?

Is Rick Pitino planning to become coach of the Puerto Rico national team?

Sportando.com, a website devoted to world basketball, reported Pitino agreed to terms with the Puerto Rico federation and soon would be announced as its national team head coach.

A website reports Rick Pitino plans to coach Puerto Rico’s national team, but Louisville says he hasn’t taken the job.

Louisville spokesman Kenny Klein told Sporting News that Pitino “hasn’t taken it. He hasn’t indicated his level of interest or a timetable.”

Federation president Carlos Beltran declined to confirm or deny the hire to Sportando. “Until I have all the papers on my desk, nothing is official” Beltran said. FIBA.com also reported Pitino was close to a deal.

Pitino would replace previous coach Manolo Cintron. His team won just a single game at the 2010 FIBA World Championships
